Health Education England working across Wessex

HE Wessex extends over Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, South Wiltshire and Dorset. It also includes some posts on the island of Jersey. The area offers a huge variety: large urban centres such as Basingstoke, Bournemouth and Southampton, the historic cathedral cities of Salisbury and Winchester; Portsmouth with its naval connection and with easy access to London for a big night out AND excellent GP training... WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT!

The countryside is some of the most beautiful in England with picturesque villages, Dorset’s Jurassic coastline, the New Forest and the Solent. For sailing enthusiasts, the Isle of Wight is the home of Cowes Week and the Solent is a popular location for water sports.

Training and support of our trainees is taken seriously across the whole of Wessex with excellent outcomes for our GP Trainees. In addition to the standard training opportunities and support Wessex is active in encouraging other training experiences, options and even time to go out of programme.

Wessex is involved in the Global Health Programme which allows trainees to take time out from training to work and gain experience overseas (countries that have been included are Kenya, & Cambodia). Wessex also has strong links to opportunities in GP in New Zealand and is now building new links with Australia and South Africa.

So why not come to Wessex and the “rest of the world too!” for a training programme without boundaries!!

There are good rail and road links, local airports in Southampton and Bournemouth, and the ports of Southampton, Portsmouth and Poole give easy access to Europe.
