Induction and Refresher schemes
You should register with the GPNRO as soon as you know you want to undertake an I&R scheme or just need advice about it
Once registered for the scheme the GPNRO will direct you to the HEE Local I&R Lead. This may take a little while to organise and to arrange a review appointment with the lead, which can be face to face or on the phone or by Skype.
You will get support and advice from your own dedicated account manager from the NHS England Cheshire & Mersey team. They will guide you through the NMPL application process and help you secure any financial and practical support you need.
Once the GPNRO have been informed that you will be taking part in the I&R scheme and have approval from the HEE I&R lead you will be granted access to all the on line learning resources
If you are taking the learning needs assessment you should only book to take the multiple choice questions (MCQ) when you are ready. This may be deferred for up to 12 months from date of initial registration to allow you time to prepare for the assessments. The GPNRO will review with you your plans at 6 and 12 months to check if you still plan to enter the I&R scheme.
Eligibility for the programme does not guarantee acceptance onto the programme which is dependent on funding and availability of willing practices for placements.

If your are an International GP that has never practised in England before you have the option of applying for either direct entry to the I&R Scheme or the International GP Recruitment Programme (IGPR).
The IGPR offers comprehensive training that builds on the support provided under the I&R Scheme. The structure training programme helps GPs to prepare for the I&R Scheme and its assessments. This includes language, communications and clinical skills training as well as the opportunity to observe and learn within a practice before commencing the I&R Scheme.
Factors you may wish to consider when deciding which route wold be best for you include your level of English language skills and whether you have previous experience of living and working in an English speaking country.
